It’s no surprise to find your toddler digging through your underwear drawer or banging on the pots and pans in the kitchen. Our children can be inquisitive and get themselves into numerous predicaments. Childproofing your home is necessary to keep curious minds safe and away from dangerous situations. Use the tips and tricks here to safeguard your home and prevent accidents from occurring.
Use Doorknob Covers
Are there particular rooms within your home you do not want your toddler going into? You may also want to prevent children from exploring too much. Regardless of the reason, doorknob covers are essential for parents because they make it much more difficult for the child to open a door without inconveniencing parents.
Add Bumpers to the Corners of Tables
Many dinner and coffee tables will have sharp corners and edges that your toddler could bump their head on. These sharp corners may be at your child’s eye level, making it easy for your toddler to seriously injure themselves. You can place rubber bumpers on the edges of these tables so that the impact will be softer and less harmful when they accidentally bump something.
Consider Installing Carpet
Are there specific areas of your home your child frequents? These spaces could include playrooms or bedrooms. If you currently have a harder floor, such as wood, in these rooms, you should consider installing carpet. There are many benefits of installing carpet, but most importantly, it allows the floor to act as a cushion. This soft surface ensures that if your toddler falls, it won’t hurt as badly.
Plug In Outlet Protectors
Many stores sell outlet protectors, which are plastic parts that fit into your outlets to prevent a child from sticking anything inside the holes. It’s never OK for a child to stick any kind of material into the outlet because it can electrocute them. These plugs will stop them from even considering this hazard.
Purchase Baby Gates
There may be places in your home you can’t easily enclose yet don’t want a child to crawl into, such as a stairway or the kitchen. Baby gates work wonders for childproofing your home because they’re easy to add to any hallway or staircase, preventing your toddler from entering a room or accidentally falling down the stairs.
You can also consider strapping cabinets and drawers shut, anchoring furniture and shelves, and placing candles and other dangerous objects away from arm’s reach. Our homes can be hazardous for our little kiddos, so doing everything you can to safeguard and childproof the home is essential for their safety.
