Meet My Guests

NINA DAVULURI

Nina Davuluri is a public speaker, advocate, and filmmaker, and was the first South Asian American contestant to win both the Miss New York followed by the title of Miss America 2014. Shortly after, Nina became the target of xenophobic and racist commentary on social media. So, she did something about it. She created the platform “Celebrating Diversity Through Cultural Competency” and encouraged students at Yale to create “Circles of Unity” to use social media for good. In her groundbreaking documentary film, COMPLEXION, she sheds light on colorism on a global scale and challenges the archaic notions that continue to exist.

TABITHA ST-BERNARD JACOBS

I’d like to invite Tabitha St. Bernard Jacobs. She is a Trinidadian American mom and respected writer and activist taking on women’s rights, racial justice, and antiracism. She was a leader of the Women’s March on Washington in 2017, which garnered worldwide participation of 5 million people. She led its youth arm, EMPOWER, and Enough! National School Walkouts that saw over 2.1 million students walk out of schools demanding safety from gun violence. She writes the column #RaisingAntiRacistKids for Romper and also writes for Parents and Good Housekeeping.

LISA MAYER

Lisa Mayer is the Co-Founder and CEO of Boss Beauties, a media and entertainment brand that inspires women and girls to be everything they want to be through impact programs, content, and products. In their first year, Boss Beauties had over 40 million impressions and a billion reach on social media. Backed by Offline Ventures, Serena Ventures, Female Founders Fund, to name a few and has partnered with Barbie, Marvel, NARS, Neiman Marcus, and Hugo Boss. For ten years, Lisa has been providing mentorship to women and girls worldwide. In honor of this important work, Lisa was named a ‘Changemaker’ at the 2016 ‘State of Women’ Summit hosted by the White House and Michelle Obama.
